"Fasten Your Seatbelts, Its Going to be a Bumpy Night"
Did you ever meet a best-selling author? Were you intimidated, awed or star-struck?
If so, please take the
time to meet Patricia Aburdene. Not only is Patricia the co-author of
the best-selling Megatrends 2000, her current book, Megatrends 2010 is
now available in a trade-paper edition.
As Patricia told 650 Shaumbra at the Quantum Leap Celebration in
Taos, New Mexico on September 18, 2007, what she calls "Megatrends"
start slowly. However, once they reach their “tipping point”, they
become unstoppable, inevitable and long lasting.
Getting back to
Patricia, herself, she is one of the most delightful people you would
ever want to listen to or meet. As a former librarian, she is adept at
explaining complex subjects in an easy-to-understand fashion.
Patricia told us that Megatrends can be social, economic, demographic, environmental or even spiritual. From
the rise of the IPod, to consciousness of global warming, to the
popularity of yoga and meditation, each Megatrend takes on a life of its
own. By definition, a Megatrend becomes a force for all of humanity
to reckon with over an extended period.
Although this
best-selling book was first published in 2005, its time is really
Now. Patricia, being a good trend-follower, was way ahead of the
"consciousness curve" in 2005.
The subtitle of
Megatrends 2010 is “The Rise of Conscious Capitalism”. I do not want to
give away all of the fun you will have reading the book or listening to
the CD’s, but I will say that Patricia makes a compelling case for
bringing spiritualism into our business activities. Her thesis is not
just that it is the “right thing to do”. By bringing both social
consciousness and spiritual consciousness into our business activities,
we can alchemically transmute “spiritual energy”
into the “abundance” we all desire. As proof of this concept, she
points out that the average stock value of the S&P 500 rose 100% in a
ten-year period, while the thirty most environmentally, socially and
spiritually conscious companies had a rise in stock value of 700%.
It sounds like we may have a Megatrend on our hands. For the “unconscious capitalists” among us, Bette Davis’ line from the 1950 drama, “All About Eve” comes to mind: “Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night.”
